Energy Drinks
This page is tagged as #culture
Energy drinks are a key part of SLICIS culture, being the preferred soft drink along with Sproke.
Not all energy drinks are created equal
Monster Energy:
Despite their commercial availability, Monster energy drinks are generally frowned upon and seen as a sign of femininity and homosexuality. Don’t drink monster. If you ever find yourself in a situation where energy drink selection is severely limited, try to find Red Bull instead. Slightly less caffeine than a Grizzly, usually around the 120-150 mark.
Ghost & Grizzly:
THE best energy drinks on the market. Every single flavor is superb (with the exception of Welch’s Ghost ones) and it boosts a great energy and nootropic blend (although Grizzly has worse nootropics, it makes up for by being more natural for what it’s worth) both are ideal for daily, average use. Note that Ghost contains a high-dosed 200mg of caffeine, you may want to build up a tolerance from smaller Red Bulls first.

C4 & Bucked Up:
Basically the Ghost of pre-workout drinks. Don’t recommend drinking these for mornings and general energy, the beta-alanine which helps blood flow can cause irritating tingles. Generally C4 is considered the budget pick between the two and Bucked Up more premium. These drinks are ideal for pre-gym use due to their specialty formulas. Note that they have VERY high caffeine doses, clocking 300mg. You basically need a tolerance for these.

Alani-Nu:
A favorite of Eli. Take a good look at the can below. If your a man don’t drink this.
Red Bull:
Classic, old reliable. It’s everywhere, it’s decent, although overpriced. The flavored ones are usually pretty bad though. The main use for Red Bull is to build tolerance, as due to the offering of small, 80mg cans, you can use them to get your body more used to caffeine to handle the higher-dose drinks.
Tips for caffeine
-
Caffeine works by blocking adenosine, the chemical in your brain that makes you feel tired. It doesn’t actually give you energy, just makes you not feel your tiredness.
-
It’s recommended to cap caffeine 9-10 hours before your scheduled sleep time to preserve sleep quality. Testing has found that stopping caffeine consumption around noon on weekdays and 2 pm on weekends works pretty well.
-
It’s recommended to build a tolerance before hitting the 200mg mark. The best way to do this is through incremental small Red Bulls over time or by consistently drinking 150mg until you feel it stop giving you as much of an effect.
